Unmanned Integration

The Failures and Successes of an UAS Integration Project

Unmanned Air System projects are never straight forward; they carry both the risks and issues of aviation, compounded by emerging technology and often an immature requirement.  This was the back drop against which the UMS Aero fixed wing unmanned systems were introduced in to Indonesia.

I remember arriving in Jakarta and fighting trough the traffic to the hotel, a mix of excitement and worry.  I as excited to introduce the systems that, I felt, could truly help the Indonesian military but I was worried about the upcoming evaluation:  would the system perform to the expected requirements of the client?

The hard work paid off and the evaluation was a success.  From this experience, we learnt that UAS training and development is not 'off the shelf' but bespoke for each individual client... for each new requirement.

Since that point in Indonesia, 360iSR has had the privilege to work with technical and operational UAS teams around the world. The 360iSR UAS Division has been able to create a class 2 above 150kg training program that is both EASA aligned and NATO compliant. The training is not only regulation compliant, it is also tactically founded in a scenario that is relevant to the client. An example of this may be support to maritime interdiction and boarding or police employment of UAS for counter riot operations. This training has been used to enable crews effectively employ the UAS tactically, quicker. 360iSR has also been the lead in developing and training military clients for the use of UASs in topography and forestry protection. The training modules are as follows:
  • EASA Ground School for UAS
  • Introduction to UAS operations
  • Conversion to type
  • Additional hours (if required)
  • Mission specific endorsement
  • Currency and competency training
